Bringing the Roman Empire to Life.

WHO WE ARE

Rhomaios is a living history organization dedicated to reconstructing the material and practiced culture of the Roman empire, with members specializing in periods ranging from the First Jewish Revolt in 69 A.D. to the Battle of the Echinades Islands in 1427 A.D. Our organization's primary focus is on the Roman Empire under the reign of Konstantinos Porfyrogennetos to Basileios Porfyrogennetos, or from 913 to 1025 A.D. Our organization is dedicated to more than just military reenactment, and seeks to present the full spectrum of Roman daily life to the audience for education and research pursuits. Our members also engage in more than just the study of Roman history, archaeology, and anthropology, but also cross over into related fields such as the study of the Migration Era peoples or early Islamic culture, in order to gain a more comprehensive picture of the Roman citizen's everyday reality of living. Rhomaios brings this to life at educational displays and public events across the United States, and has members worldwide.

Rhomaios also specializes in first-hand research, known as experimental archaeology, with many of our members being professionals in the fields of Classics, Byzantine Studies, and beyond. Our organization also directly contributes to directly advancing research in the field through our members' own personal research projects and publications. Rhomaios offers consulting and research services, and can provide other services as needed, including in-person appearances. If you are interested in hiring us, or booking us for an event, please reach out to us through the contact page on the site.
